Tech-No

My parents always seem to be the last people on the face of the planet
to get whatever is the latest gadget in this tech world we live in now.
& They read this blog...
so,

Sorry Mom & Dad!
But, it's true!

My brother & I seemed to be the only 2 people in our whole elementary school
that did not own a computer back in the day when they started becoming popular.
I remember going over to friend's houses
& being way more interested in their computer
than their friendship.

I remember my little brother used to cry whenever my Mom & I
came to pick him up at a friend's house,
because we always had to pull him away from the Nintendo gaming system that we,
NEVER had.

We got a computer when I was in middle school (7th grade).
That's when a lot of my school papers needed to be "word processed".
Figures we would get a computer for an educational reason!

And trust me,
that's all we were initially allowed to use the computer for.

Our first gaming system was the GameCube,
which didn't come out until 2001, folks.

I was 13.
The Nintendo 64 came out in 1996!
YEAH.  A little late.

Anyway,
that was the end of my brother.
I don't think I saw much of him for years after that.

Back to my point,
the other night,
I get a call from my Dad,

Me:  Hi, Dad
Dad:  Hi, Karla.  I'm talking to you on my new iPhone 4.

* insert jaw-dropping state of shock here*

They have also been learning to text!
So, now I'm kind of just waiting for them to join Facebook or something!

My Dad has been working over at the NEW
Sandy Hook School now, & he has had really crappy service,
so AT&T basically MADE them both upgrade.

Hahaha.
Gotta love it.

Mom & Dad, if you're reading,
don't be offended,
you know I'm just poking fun.

iPhone or not, you're still the coolest parents in my book!

=)

  1. This is too cute! It's a little extra funny to me because my mom and dad are so the opposite. For 6 years before my mom passed she actually worked for Cingular/AT&T and for about four years before that she worked at BellSouth. So, she actually knew more about the latest phones than I did. My eldest sisteer is a gadget genius (no...really) so we always had the latest game system even though I hated them overall. My dad has an iPhone 4S and is on Facebook.

    we're like super-tchno family!! lol

  2. We had the 64, but only because my brother was a teenager. So funny that you got a game cube when you were 13! That was LITTLE Nicks first gaming system and he was 4, he didn't get it until 2007 or so. We DID have a computer, but only ONE and man.. I don't miss those dial up days.

  6. Haha, way to go to your parents!!! :) My parents are just getting situated with the internet, and are barely learning to text! I have to send them email links to my blog so that they can just click on it! Hahaha.

Funny how that generation is just a little slow to adapt :) Gotta love em though!

  7. My father inlaw is a computer geek but not a gadget guy.
He works for AT&T and recently got a slider phone(which he thinks is cool) and started texting. We keep trying to get him to get an iphone but he wont take the plunge. My mother in law just started texting and is on facebook now after always saying I dont need a Facebook. Now she comments on everything lol

  8. Several years ago I had to send my (then) 8 year old son to my moms house to have him teach her how to text. Now, whenever she gets an upgraded phone, I send him over to help her learn how to use it. When my parents got their first computer (my son was about 5) I sent him to show them how to open solitaire (the only reason they bought the computer).
